Probably the worst thing about school is sitting exams. Now, we can’t sit the exams for you but there are some guidelines that, if you follow them, could help you get through this stressful time.

The most important thing about exams is feeling confident. If you don’t understand what you are supposed to be learning, talk to a teacher or another pupil who can help you straight away.

Everyone performs best in different surrounding and under different pressure. So before sitting down to study, it’s best to sit down and think how you study best.

Can you concentrate better during the day or in the evenings? Which surroundings and conditions do you feel most comfortable in? Do you prefer to study well in advance or are you best under time pressure? And when it comes to actual studying, here are some golden rules:

* try not to stare at notes, papers or books - have a break and start again
* break up your revision and study periods where you can. It's easier to remember information from a few shorter study sessions than one long one
* use practical memory aids: audio-visual aids; tapes; photographs; diagrams
* test yourself and ask someone to test you
* give yourself targets and rewards
* get down to work, rather than wasting time worrying about how much you have to do.

Good luck and remember, if you have any concerns about your revision, exam preparation or the exam itself - your teachers are there to help you.
