Get energised with the Being Girl guide to getting things done. Whether it’s homework, coursework, revision or simply tidying your room sometimes you have to do boring stuff. But when there’s other, fun stuff you’d rather be doing, how can you stay motivated? By giving yourself lots of little luxury treats of course! Get on course for coursework You’ve had months to get it done but somehow the deadline is tomorrow and you haven’t even started. There’s so much to do it seems impossible. But don’t fret. The trick to getting a big job like a coursework project done is to break it down into little manageable chunks. Things like: Write plan. Research. Write intro. Write first section, and so on. Then allocate a little treat to reward yourself after each task. Try things like a bar of chocolate, half an hour watching tv, a phone call to your bessie mate, a walk to the shop. Before you know it, the work be will done. Make homework work for you They say a woman’s work is never done, but it goes for teens too. As soon as you’ve done one lot of homework, you get assigned more. It’s never ending. And that can make starting hard… Think of something big you really, really want; new shoes , a day with the girls at Orchard or a funky new mobi. Then tell yourself you can only have it if you finish your homework on time for a month. That way, even when the work keeps coming, you’ll start to see how you’ve really achieved something. Revisit revision Ask yourself this, did anyone ever feel like they did enough revision? No. It’s impossible to feel like you’ve done enough, cos there’s Whisper® more you could have done. That’s not to say you shouldn’t try. It’s just that you shouldn’t set yourself up for failure. If you tell yourself you MUST do five hours a night, you’re just going to be angry when you don’t manage it. Instead stick to achievable goals, like two 45 minute sessions a day. Then give yourself a treat for doing it and congratulate yourself on any extra you do. The secret is, don’t beat yourself up for failing, treat yourself for succeeding instead! Take pride in a job well done Make dull jobs interesting by doing them to the best of your ability. A tiresome task like tidying your room could be a job you relish if you call it ‘redesigning’ your room instead. You’re not cleaning, you’re interior designing! Motivate yourself with related treats like cool storage from Paperchase or new posters of hot hunks for your wall. |
