Subject: The dating game (do's and don'ts)
Feature: Just started dating but aren't sure what the 'rules' are? Fret not - our handy hints will tell you everything you need to know about the dating game...

DATING DO'S
  • DO be yourself. He's asked you out because he likes you just as you are. There's no need to put on any air or grace just because you're on a 'date' date.
  • DO make an effort to look your best but don't go way over the top. Make-up slapped on 3 inches thick is way scary for guys - just take the subtly gorgeous approach and you can't go wrong. Think Mischa Barton/Lindsay Lohan for oh-so-casual girl next door glamour.
  • DO keep the conversation flowing by asking him lots of questions and listening to what he has to say in response.
  • DO offer to pay half if it's a first date - unless he insists of course - it's polite and show's that you're not just out for what you can get out of him.
  • DO tell your parents where you're going and who with. There's no point putting them off your potential new boyfriend right from the start by lying to them.
  • DO arrange for a friend to SMS you half way through the evening. This is good because it makes you look popular and gives you an excuse to leave if the date is a disaster. Simply say the message says you're needed at home urgently!
  • DO make eye contact, subtly play with your hair and/or lean in close to him when you talk - these body language signals all say "I'm interested.' and are great ways to let him know that you're keen.
  • DO kiss him at the end of the evening if you want to!
DATING DON'TS
  • DON'T talk about yourself all night long. Conversation is a two way thing - let him get a word in every now and then!
  • DON'T go somewhere too noisy, quiet or where your friends are going to be hanging out in a big gang. Too noisy - you can't have a good chat. Too quiet - too scary when you speak and if your friends are hanging around, they'll try and take the mickey and distract you.
  • DON'T wear anything you're not comfortable in. You don't want to spend the entire date worrying about visible bra straps or uncomfortable shoes - wear something you love - and you can walk in!
  • DON'T spend the entire time checking your phone for messages.
  • DON'T talk about your ex all night long.
  • DON'T feel pressurised into doing anything you don't want to do.
  • DON'T SMS him five minutes after the date's finished saying what a great time you had and when can you get together again? Play it a bit cool!
  • DON'T play too hard to get though, if you like him and you want to see him again, don't be afraid to follow up with a text asking him out. Guys aren't mind readers, if you like him, let him know!
