First things first: I am not hard up for fame.

It just comes my way.I’m not complaining.

But that said, I have done things that could have gotten me famous. Not by choice of course. Most of those “things” were done to please a special someone – my mom. Cuz if there was one thing she wanted , it was to see me become an obscenely famous uber star.

I’ve taken part in beauty pageants when I was a teenager. Miss This and Miss That…and to give some credit to myself, I’ve won one: Miss Teen Singapore in 1995. (man you should’ve seen the expression on my mom’s face then… tears of joy etc. very drama.)

Now, 11 years later, I look back at those pictures taken of me then, I cringe: makeup that could put Cleopatra to shame, Indonesian Tai-Tai hairstyle (totally unTeen-like) etc. I looked like a hostess from a Sanpopo Bar.

I made a mental note to self: If I could tahan that, I could tahan anything.

My mom passed on in 2002 on World Cancer Day. I miss her.

But I think her spirit kinda lived on inside me cuz after that, man, I’ve done some crazy shit to get some attention. And in this case, Edison Chen’s. Why on earth? Well, read on…

I’ve straddled a travellator at Dhoby Ghaut MRT in full ski gear during the morning peak hour. I just hopped on the hand rails of the travellator and with skis on each hand, I pretended to be skiing… much to the shock and horror of others at the MRT station.I’ve also snorted a few lines of wasabi powder (had a splitting headache after), lit up my fart with a lighter and even transported worms in my mouth from one point to another in some stupid telematch. I had to transport a total of 6 mouthful of squiggly slimey worms. Gross.

And all that so I could get to host a show with Edison Chen. Totally NOT WORTH IT because:

  1. I didn’t know who the hell he was then.
  2. When I saw him, he didn’t look half as gorgeous as people said he would be. (in fact to me, he looked like a life-sized squiggly worm)
  3. I didn’t want a chance to co-host with him. I was just doing my friend a favor by agreeing to take part in this contest cuz they needed to make the numbers. (see, im not the only one who’s not enticed by the “grand prize” of co-hosting a show with Ed Chen.)
A lot of work done for something I didn’t care much for eh? Sigh…At least that gave me something to write about… stories I can tell my grandchildren etc.

Now, I’m back at it again. On my TV Show, GIRLS OUT LOUD. It’s not like I begged the TV Execs to give me a chance on TV, it just happened.

Its not like I’ve attended countless auditions to get noticed. It just happened.

And ironically, every single time something “happens” for me, I have to subject myself to doing some crazy shit.Check out GIRLS OUT LOUD, premiering 4th Dec 10pm on Channel 5 and you’ll know what I mean.
